Description
Calabashes are unusually rich in shapes. These climbers from the tropics thrive in a protected place and produce durable fruit in large numbers. Some of them (eg Hercules lobes) are edible when the are young and can be cooked like zucchini. You can dry the unusually shaped fruit, use it for crafting, painting or for vessels. Even in a green state they cause a sensation, as an ornament on structures, walls or house walls. The plants are well suited as a fast-growing privacy screen. The wide variety of delicious fruit forms apples, snakes, clubs, candy or gooseneck shapes. Harvest time is from September until stronger frosts.
