Description
This 2 to 3-metre high plantain tree has been cultivated for millennia. The banana tree is perennial and is easily recognizable by its large, over 1 meter long leaves. After 3 to 4 years, the downy, curved inflorescence with a reddish to violet-coloured flower can develop from the pseudopod. After producing fruit, the plant dies. Before it dies, the plant's subterranean shoots grow new plants.
