Saflax Bonsai - White Pine

With its needles in a tuft, branches growing in tiers and cone-shaped crown, this bonsai is particularly decorative. In spring, the white pine bears numerous small red flowers and small, pink-coloured male cones. The brown female cones usually remain on the branches for several years.

• The white pine originally comes from Japan and South Korea, where it mainly grows in sunny high areas.
• In its original homeland, the white pine is a symbol of vitality and immortality.

Our tips:

• Before sowing, place seeds in the refrigerator for a week and then soak them in room-warm water for 24 hours to improve germination
• Cover the seed pots with foil and make holes in them so that the soil does not dry out
• Remove foil for two hours every two to three days to prevent mould growth
• Keep potting soil moist but not wet
• Ideal germination temperature: 20°C
• Prick out eight weeks after germination
• Likes a sunny, free, solitary spot
• Water evenly - soil should only dry on the surface
• Avoid permanent dryness and waterlogging
• Fertilisation with a special conifer fertiliser is recommended every four weeks from March to November
• Overwintering outdoors is possible - protect the root balls against freezing for the first few years
