Saflax Bonsai - Japanese Black Pine

With its bright green needles that grow in pairs and its burst-pattern bark, this bonsai is a very special eye-catcher. Its upright growth is rather irregular.

Useful information

• The Japanese black pine originally comes from the coastal areas of Japan and South Korea.

Our tips:

• Place seeds embedded in sand in the freezer for a week before planting to improve germination
• Cover the seed pots with foil and make holes in them so that the soil does not dry out
• Remove foil for two hours every two to three days to prevent mould growth
• Keep potting soil moist but not wet
• Ideal germination temperature: 20 to 25° C
• Loves a bright location with high humidity
• Insensitive to dry periods – avoid waterlogging and soil that is too moist
• Fertilising with a special bonsai fertiliser is recommended every three weeks from spring to autumn
• Hibernate in a bright, outdoor location protected from strong winds and direct sunlight - cover with foil or fleece in severe frost
