Saflax Queen of the Night

This plant displays its beautiful, vanilla-scented flowers, which can reach up to 30 cm in size, only at night.

Our tips:

• During cultivation, scatter the seeds directly onto moistened potting substrate - ideally 75% cactus soil and 25% sand - and do not cover with soil (light germinator!)
• Cover the cultivation container with cling film and provide air holes to protect the soil from drying out
• Remove the film every two to three days for about two hours to prevent mould formation
• Place the cultivation container in a bright and warm location at 20 to 25°C
• Keep the soil surface moist but not wet
• Water slightly more than other cacti
• Requires a climbing aid
• Can spend the summer in a sheltered spot outdoors, but must be slowly acclimatised to the sun
• Water once a week during the growth phase; remove excess water
• Fertilise every three weeks from March to July with liquid cactus fertiliser
• After one year, transplant into normal cactus soil; thereafter, repot every three to four years in spring
• Overwinter in a bright location at 8 to 12°C (not near a heater!)
