Saflax Ginkgo

As a fan-leaved tree, the Ginkgo represents a bridge between deciduous and coniferous trees. It is hard to believe, but its lineage dates back to the age of the dinosaurs. It is remarkably resistant to plant diseases and remains unaffected by strong winds. Under ideal conditions, it can grow up to 50 cm per year. While young trees should be protected from direct midday sun and severe frost, the Ginkgo becomes relatively undemanding as it matures and is winter-hardy down to -28°C.

Tips for cultivation:

• Slightly roughen the seeds with sandpaper
• Let them soak in water for 12 hours
• Distribute the seeds on moist potting soil and cover lightly
• Cover with cling film and poke holes in it
• Remove the film every two to three days for 2 hours
• Keep the substrate moist but not wet
