Saflax Giant Feather Grass / Golden Oats

It impressive height and delicate stalks distinguish this giant among feather grasses, which creates a unique atmosphere in the garden with its veil of flower panicles. This grass is the ideal addition to low-growing plants as well as a solitary specimen in beds and tubs.

• The giant feather grass originally comes from Portugal and southern Spain.

Our Tips:

• Enrich potting soil with 25% perlite to increase the germination rate
• Press seeds lightly into the moist potting soil
• Cover cultivation containers with film and provide them with holes so that the soil does not dry out
• Remove the film every two to three days for two hours to prevent mould formation
• Keep the potting soil moist but not wet
• Ideal germination temperature: 20 to 25°C
• Loves a warm and sunny location
• The more barren and dry the location, the longer the lifespan and the more intense the foliage colouration
• Heavy and compacted soils should be made more permeable with sand, gravel or grit - however, a location with moderately dry and permeable soil or container planting is ideal
• Water regularly in summer, but avoid waterlogging
• Tie long leaves and stalks together in winter to protect them from snow loads and wind - in the first and second year, additionally protect plants in the ground area with brushwood or leaves
• Cut back to about 10 cm at the beginning of spring
