Saflax Bonsai - Himalayan Cedar

With its branches growing horizontally from the trunk, the Himalayan Cedar immediately catches the eye. Its grey-green-blue needles grow in clusters and reach up to five centimetres in length. The cones, which are around eight centimetres long, stand upright on the branches after the autumn flowering.

Interesting Facts

• The Himalayan Cedar is originally native to the region between western Nepal and eastern Afghanistan.

Our Tips:

• Place seeds in the refrigerator for one week before sowing to improve germination
• Cover cultivation containers with film and provide them with holes so that the soil does not dry out
• Remove the film every two to three days for two hours to prevent mould formation
• Keep the potting soil moist, but not wet
• Ideal germination temperature: 20°C
• Loves a full sun location
• Water evenly and sufficiently, but avoid waterlogging
• Fertilisation with a special bonsai fertiliser every three weeks from May to September is recommended
• Regularly pinch out new shoots during the growth phase
• Prune thicker shoots and branches only in winter to avoid resin loss at the cutting points
• Repotting every three to four years in spring is recommended - do not remove the soil completely and do not perform drastic root pruning
• Overwintering in a bright location at 10 to 15°C is recommended
