Saflax Bonsai - Australian Pine

Although it may not look like it, the Australian Pine is actually a deciduous hardwood tree. Over the course of evolution, its leaves have transformed into tiny, pointed scales. This adaptation has allowed the Australian Pine to perfect its protection against evaporation, making it ideal for dry locations and sandy soils.

Interesting Facts

• The male flowers are inconspicuous, while the red female flowers appear as dense, hanging clusters.
• The wood of the Australian Pine is exceptionally hard, which is why it is used in Australia for constructing railway sleepers.

Our Tips:

• Indoor pre-cultivation is recommended.
• Cover the seeds only lightly with soil.
• Cover the cultivation containers with film and prick holes in it to prevent the soil from drying out.
• Remove the film every two to three days to prevent mould formation.
• Keep the starting soil moist, but not wet.
• Ideal germination temperature: 20 to 25°C.
• Water evenly and avoid waterlogging.
• Thrives in full sun and warm spots, such as by a south-facing window.
• Fertilising is recommended every four weeks from late spring to autumn using a specialised bonsai fertiliser.
• The location should be bright and warm throughout the year.
• Ideal overwintering temperature: 10 to 15°C.
