Saflax Blue Fescue Grass

With its compact, hemispherical growth and blue-tinted leaves, this evergreen sweet grass is a unique eye-catcher in any garden. It should be planted in small groups and provides a stunning contrast to other plants.

• Blue fescue grass is originally native to the mountainous regions of southwestern Europe and northern Italy.

Our Tips:

• Enrich the potting soil with 25% perlite to increase the germination rate
• Gently press the seeds into the moist potting soil
• Cover the seed trays with film and provide them with holes so that the soil does not dry out
• Remove the film every two to three days for two hours to prevent mould formation
• Keep the potting soil moist but not wet
• Ideal germination temperature: 20 to 25°C
• Loves a warm and sunny location
• The leaner and drier the location, the longer the lifespan and the more intense the foliage colouration
• Heavy and compacted soils should be made more permeable with sand, gravel or grit
• Regularly pluck out yellowed leaves
• If older plants become bald in the middle, it is possible to divide them in spring and replant them
• Tie long leaves and stalks together in winter to protect them from snow load and wind - in the first and second year, additionally protect the plants at the base with brushwood or leaves
• Cut back to about 10 cm at the beginning of spring
• Ideal as perennial planting, for rock gardens and tubs, as well as for bed and path edging
