What is black soil?
Based on the idea of Terra Preta, Riedlingsdorfer Schwarzerde or Black Soil was developed after many years of trials and research. If this soil is used correctly, long-term fertility is guaranteed and regular fertiliser use is no longer necessary. The reason for this is the special composition of the earth from compost, biochar, clay minerals and trace elements as well as the special microbiology (mycorrhizal fungi, N-binding bacteria). On the one hand, this ensures a loss-free soil system and a constant supply of nitrogen and, on the other hand, an improved supply of nutrients.

In numerous tests it has been found that yields of up to 25 kg of vegetables per m² are possible in Terra Preta - and that too over several years and completely without fertilisation or pesticides. The "Riedlingsdorfer Schwarzerde" or Black Soil was developed based on this model and, when used correctly, guarantees long-term fertility without the need for regular fertilisers.

Correct usage:
Black Soil is a ready-made soil for use outdoors or in a raised bed. It can be used in any layer of thickness. For root vegetables, a layer of 20-30 cm is recommended.

Of course, the "Riedlingsdorfer Schwarzerde" can also be combined with other soils. To reap the best possibles benefits for a long time, black soil should always be covered with organic material such as lawn clippings. If lawn clippings are not available, this can be done with any other organic material - leaves, chopped shrub cuttings, bark, crop residues or weeds. Shredded paper or cardboard waste can also be used in an emergency.

Black soil also needs to stay in direct contact with the subsoil. If these simple practices are followed, you can look forward to lasting fertility and vigorous plant growth.

The horn shavings included here act as a slow release nitrogen fertiliser, slowly decomposed by fungi. A white fungal network is therefore normal and shows the high biological activity.
