In July it is not only the swimming pools that are in high season but also the garden. Book author and nature gardener Angelika Ertl gives you exclusive tips on what you should do in the garden in July.
Strawberries make you happy: The harvest of delicious strawberries is probably the garden highlight in July. The small red fruits are simply delicious when picked directly from the plant and are a joy for young and old alike.
Cut and fertilise roses: Strengthened by delicious strawberries, you can start important maintenance work on roses in the garden. Angelika Ertl advises cutting and fertilising these in July.
Watering is more important than ever in July: Watering is of course one of the most important topics in midsummer. “In a natural garden you set up barrels and vessels everywhere. Then you can water the plants nearby with soft rainwater. Above all, the water is not too cold and the plant roots do not get a shock, ”explains Angelika Ertl.
Weeding: Weeds should also be removed in the summer month of July. The best way to do this is to use copper tools. You can find out why this is so from Angelika Ertl in this video .
Harvesting and replanting: You can now replant wherever you have already harvested. Now is also the right time to sow winter vegetables.
Tying up perennials: If you haven't tied up your perennials, you should do so now in July. Make sure they are well supported so that they do not collapse in heavy rains and windy or stormy weather.
