Brassica rapa

Description

This classic Napa cabbage variety forms long, narrow heads with bright green, crisp leaves. With their subtly spicy taste, these can be enjoyed both raw and steamed and also can be used to prepare kimchi.

Our tips:

  • Loves moist, rich compost soil
  • Direct sowing in July and August is recommended so that it still forms beautiful heads but does not flower
  • Tolerates light frost - can stay in the bed a little longer
  • Can be stored in the refrigerator for a few weeks and covered in sand in the cellar over the winter
  • Heavy consumption of nutrients
  • Suitable for balconies
  • Requires a loose, deep, humus-rich and loamy soil
  • True to type seeds
  • Good neighbours: celery, Swiss chard, legumes, carrots
  • Bad neighbours: leek, potatoes, cabbage varieties
  • Crop rotation: 3 to 4 years
